The name refers
to the "Venus of Willendorf" a prehistoric statue of a Goddess.
I mimicked the format of the traditonal venus one sees in western museums
complete with the "approprate" fragmentations. But, I altered
the body type as a way of challenging our contemporary ideal of female beauty.
Flesh is celebrated with all its imperfection, roughness and uncontained-ness.
The base was designed to continue the prossession of up-turned and down
turned triangles which was based on Brancusi's "Column". |
