| Paper Veils, 2002, Thai Unryu paper, Vellum, bonded paper, sand, adhesives, ink, 6" to 7 " figurines, dimensions variable | |||||
| Still an evolving projects, I became interested in exploring and improvising these small figurines while working on the large Veils. I wanted to have more control and play over the arrangement of the figures in a landscape in order to create an eclectic space that I could then photograph. So, I experimented with various types and colors of paper, backdrops, and construction materials. I also played with lighting and arrangement of the figures. One of the discoveries in doing this kind of improvising was using sand as the floor covering that wonderfully replicated the dessert experience; It was however both inspiring as well as hopelessly cliche (and Orientalist!) So now my goal is to create a forrest of veils that inhabit and define a space and perhaps just hint at a narrative. | |||||
